ABSTRACT

Pediatric fluoroscopy requires specialized skills, clinical knowledge, and child-centered care, and radiologic technologists (RTs) play a vital role in this aspect of pediatric imaging. This archived webcast^* will review RTs' evolving roles in performing safe and effective fluoroscopic imaging of infants, children, and adolescents. Implementing developmentally appropriate communication anxiety-reduction techniques, caregiver involvement, and strategies that promote cooperation and positive healthcare experiences will be emphasized. Select pediatric gastrointestinal and genitourinary disorders will be discussed, including esophageal atresia, malrotation, pyloric stenosis, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), superior mesenteric artery syndrome (SMA) syndrome, and foreign body ingestion, along with their imaging features and surgical implications. Imaging characteristics, examination modifications, and correlations with surgical interventions will be presented in order to strengthen clinical decision-making and procedural preparedness. Participants will gain practical knowledge in order to improve diagnostic quality, enhance patient safety, and support compassionate, family-centered care in the pediatric fluoroscopy setting.
